An Indigenous Woman of the United States

Updated: Feb 29

What can I say about this astounding Mexican-Indian — by her own declaration — woman whom starred in old black and white western films, speaks out and for her people to hold the oppressors accountable… and is an artist?

an indigenous woman boasts her hand made turquoise and silver jewelry. Her arm is draped over a metal turquoise door jam.
An Indigenous Woman of the United States

She is a wise, bright and colourful soul, hoping to converse with and educate anyone willing and able to listen… because until we listen, we’ll never learn.

No, until we ask questions to understand, we’ll never learn because ignorance is NOT bliss and assumptions lead to dispute and rivalry..... war

She is a silversmith, where everything is made and touched by her hands, and is sourced ethically for and by her peoples, for the peoples of the United States....

to allow others to gain understanding

She is strong, kind, brilliant….

RESILIENT

She is indigenous to the land that was stolen from her ancestors before her by entitled immigration based settlers and refuses to go silently into that dark night

however, not to remove the history of the United States West, but to preserve it.

She is a WO-MAN.

She is an ADVOCATE.

She is indigenous, born and raised in The United States.

AND

She is a local, in whom I supported through the purchase of the remarkably simple yet complex turquoise stone that was preserved from having been mined in the 50s, enveloped in hand carved re-purposed silver with a feather for the representation of freedom that I ever so proudly boast across my chest once I captured her essence on film....

Captured for my memory, as well as to share her story with others.
